A few months ago I made the rather drastic decision to bail on my original plan to go to law school and instead try my hand at something I've long had my eyes set on... freelancing! Before I made the change, I knew that the 9-5 office lifestyle was never my "dream", but I wasn't quite sure how to get started doing anything else.
Plus, I had a whole laundry list of excuses why freelancing was never going to work for me.
And those are just a few gems from my HUGE list of excuses.
The truth is I was just scared I would fail and never took the chance to prove myself wrong.
In June, I earned my first freelance money online! It wasn't much... only $60 dollars or so. But, I kept going and here I am a few month's later earning over $1,000 per month in freelance money.
I made the promise to myself that I'd publicize how much money I earn each month freelancing in order to keep myself accountable. It's working! You can check out my income reports to see for yourself by following this link.
When the money started trickling in, I started to feel the excitement and energy bubble up inside me. I was doing something I LOVE and making money doing it... literally the dream.
Every finished project provided me with an extra dose of validation and an energy boost to keep pushing forward.
While I had thought for a while that after bailing on law school I'd primarily live on savings, I was wrong. My freelance projects started to pile up and I started to realize it was possible to grow my bank account rather than see it decrease each month.
So I have a question for you...
Whatever your financial situation may be today, you really CAN earn money online.
And earning an extra $1,000 per month is just the start.
I wish I could say that I've always known I could make money online. But I'd be lying. Some of my family are entrepreneurs. My brother started a whole slew of businesses... some better than others (he's sold t-shirts, scooped dog poop with the superbly catchy "got poop? we scoop!" tagline). But now he's running a hugely popular VPN company headquartered in Eastern Europe. My dad started his career working in a department store and now he's heading a technology consulting company in Buffalo. And my Mom went in the social services direction, launching an adoption agency from NOTHING right after the birth of her 9th child.
Needless to say, I'm lucky to have an incredible network of mentors to look up to and learn from.
But starting a business, no matter what size or type, isn't easy even when you have all the right people in your corner.
I'd be remiss if I suggested that there haven't been struggles along the way and I know for a fact my family members will agree.
But deciding that your goals are worth achieving will help overcome those challenges and empower you to find the right solutions.
There will always be challenges in ANY business, but you'll just have to decide if you think the work and overall goal is worth it. Only then will you choose if you're going to be successful. And yes, I DO believe that a component of success is CHOICE. You have to choose to do the work. If you don't make that choice, the success will never come.
I learned a lot in my first few months as a freelancer, but, to bubble it all down to a few key highlights...
Got rid of my fear of reaching out. Cold emailing, LinkedIn messaging, website hopping and contact form submissions aren't so weird to me anymore.
Learned to price the right amount of money for each client and each proposal so that I could close more deals.
Finally trumped my "I don't know where to start or what to do next" excuse. Once I started doing something, more ideas started to flow.
If I can do it, you can do it. And I really do mean that.
There's no reason why I should be able to earn money online and you can't. I know the feeling of self doubt all too well. It's easy to convince yourself that something isn't worth it or that you don't have the skills or knowledge to make your goals a reality.
But the first step is to stop thinking that way and start DOING something... anything.
And you can start by learning exactly what I did, step-by-step, to earn that money.
I've fielded a lot of questions from family, friends, random readers on my blog about how I got started making money. So I decided to organize my answers into a clean, concise and organized manner that will help everyone interested.
One of the things I struggled with at the beginning was direction. I wanted someone to sit next to me and hold my hand so I would know what steps to take, when to take them, and how to take them. I had finally convinced myself that I could be successful, I just wasn't exactly sure how to make that happen.
So that's what this course is meant to do for you. I'll guide you through everything I did, all my experiences, my struggles, my failures, my thought processes, everything so that you can figure out exactly what you need to do, when you need to do it, and how to go about doing so.
